Defenders Drop Game Two To Fisher Cats, 5-4

Manchester, NH- On a rainy Friday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, the Defenders fell for the first time to their neighbors to the north in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 5-4.
Connecticut jumped on the board in the top of the first as Travis Ishikawa tapped an RBI fielder's choice to the right side of the infield to score Antoan Richardson from third to give the Defenders an early 1-0 advantage.
New Hampshire would battle back in the home half of the first as the Cats put up a four spot on the board as three runners came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Kyle Phillips. Richardson couldn't handle the ball in center which moved Phillips to second and sent Eric Neilsen to the plate without a throw. Later, Brian Jeroloman would rip a double into the alleyway in left center to score Phillips as the lead pushed to 4-1.
After three quiet innings, the Defenders struck back with three runs of their own as the red-hot Carlos Sosa drilled a three run homer over the right field wall to score Ishikawa and Travis Denker and equalize the game at 4-4.
After a rocky first, Defenders' right-handed starter Dave McKae would settle in and at one point sat down an impressive twelve consecutive Fisher Cats.
The Cats would bite back in the bottom of the eighth as Ryan Patterson sent a slow roller into right field to score Neilsen and re-claim the lead, 5-4.
The Defenders (5-3) would go down in order in the top of the ninth as the Fisher Cats (1-6) earned their first win of the season.
