May 22, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Miami FC News Release
MIAMI - The Miami FC announced on Saturday that the club has mutually agreed to part ways after defender Ramon Martin del Campo announced his retirement from professional football.
Martin Del Campo originally signed with the club back in January after spending several seasons in the USL Championship. During his short time at the club, the defender started in all three league matches, while playing every minute.
"I'd like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity this year to continue my dream of playing football," said Martin Del Campo. "It's a tough decision, but I have decided to retire as it's in the best interest of my family and myself. I enjoyed the time I had here in Miami with my teammates and I know they will represent this club extremely well on the field. Vamos Miami!"
Del Campo joined Miami FC after spending the 2020 USL Championship season with Las Vegas Lights, where he started seven matches, scoring two goals. The 27 year-old would move to OKC Energy in September, featuring in four league matches to close out the year.
"Actions speak louder than words and I have shown what I think of Ramon by signing him twice," said Head Coach Paul Daglish. "He is a dream player for a coach. A loyal family man, respectful and always 100% committed to the cause. With his attitude and determination he will be successful at whatever he decides to do.
Prior to the 2020 season, Del Campo had two very successful seasons at Fresno FC, playing a total of 63 league matches, while scoring three goals. His strength and leadership in the defense helped Fresno reach the 2019 USL Championship Playoffs after finishing third in the Western Conference. Originally from Hermosillo, Mexico, the center back also featured in over 20 matches for Ottawa Fury FC. Prior to joining the Canadian side, the Mexican defender was signed by Costa Rican giant Deportivo Saprissa, which included a loan spell with Puerto Rico FC from the North American Soccer League.
The club would like to wish Ramon all the best in this new chapter of his life and know he will be supporting his teammate off the field as the season continues.
