Odessa Jackalopes News Release

ODESSA, TX - Following their longest stretch of midseason downtime this year, the Odessa Jackalopes returned to action Friday in a 4-2 loss to the Wichita Falls Wildcats at Kay Yeager Coliseum. With the loss, the Jacks fell to 6-37-3 overall this season and with 15 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings.

After a measured, tight-checking start to the proceedings, the Wildcats broke through first when former Amarillo Bull Conor O'Neil wired his first of two goals on the night, a shorthanded marker and the first period's lone score, past Odessa netminder Nick Deery at 7:07. After two more Wichita Falls tallies, from Tyler Leford at 6:08 and O'Neil again at 6:47, the Jackalopes got on the board at 9:02 when rookie centerman and Syosset, New York native Corey Hoffman flung home his second goal of the season, a power-play marker, assisted by Matt Volonnino and Josh Racek, to make it 3-1.

A late George Pagonis goal in the second pushed the 'Cats edge back to its highest margin at 4-1, but Odessa winger Brett Wagner potted the only goal of the final stanza, his second of the season, assisted by Matt Montemurro at 17:44 to set the final score; 4-2 Wichita Falls.

In his fifth head-to-head appearance vs. the Wildcats this season, Deery impressed, posting numerous highlight-reel stops en route to a 34 save performance. Odessa's two power-play goals on Friday matched the Jackalopes' highest single-game total of 2012-13 and both Wagner's and Hoffman's tallies were their second in their past three games.

Next up for the Jacks, it's the team's final road tilt in nearly a month as the Jacks look for a weekend split with the Wildcats in a Saturday rematch in Wichita Falls before embarking on a season-long nine game homestand from March 1st to the 20th.

In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season ticket packages for the Jacks' sophomore campaign are available now starting at just $179.
