
Wild Earn a Point in Shootout Loss to Ironmen

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Wenatchee Wild were defeated in ashootout Saturday by the Jamestown Ironmen, 3-2.
Saturday's game wrapped up a 6-game road trip in which theWild went 4-1-1 and recorded nine standings points.
"I thought we played well," said Wild head coach Bliss Littler. "We had chances to putit away in the second period, but just weren't able to. We missed a couple, wehit the cross bar or the goalie made a big save. We're going to go home, healup and get our legs back."
Jamestown took a 1-0 lead 22 seconds into the second periodSaturday when Nicholas Sierra scored on a rebound. Tyler Dunagan and MichaelMazzotta picked up the assists.
The Wild had a chance to tie up the score a little over fiveminutes later on a penalty shot by NoahNelson (Oconomowoc, Wis.), but Jamestown goalie Joe Ballmer denied Nelson'sshot. The Wild managed to tie up the game anyway eight seconds later. After afaceoff win in the Ironmen zone, MaxMcHugh (Edgewood, Wash.) scored on a rebound off of Josh Hartley's (Coquitlam, British Columbia) shot from the nearpoint. Jacob Barber (DardennePrairie, Mo.) also assisted on the even-strength marker.
The Wild went on to take the lead, 2-1, with a little morethan 11 minutes remaining in the second period when Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey, British Columbia) lit the lamp during apower play. Seconds after he served a 2-minute penalty for tripping,Schmidbauer received a long pass and scored on a breakaway. McHugh and Nicholas Kuchera (Eagan, Minn.)assisted.
Jamestown tied up the game, forcing extra time when DylanZink scored a power-play goal on a shot from the high slot. Brett Szajner wascredited with the lone assist on the goal, which was scored with a little morethan eight minutes remaining in regulation.
The game was decided in a shootout after a scoreless5-minute overtime session. Only one goal was scored in the shootout, and thegame-winner belonged to Jamestown's Luc Gerdes.
McHugh led the Wild with a goal and an assist. Ballmer made34 saves on 36 shots to earn the win for the Ironmen. Nick Schmit (Fargo, N.D.) took the loss. He made 33 saves on 35shots.
Each team scored one power-play goal. The Wild had sevenpower plays while Jamestown had six chances.
The Wild (35-8-5) will return home to the Town Toyota Centernext weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for a 2-game series against the FresnoMonsters. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. while Friday'sgame is slated for a 5:05 p.m. start.
