Brookings Blizzard News Release
The Brookings Blizzard skated away with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Aberdeen Wings Friday night at the Larson Ice Center. Despite out shooting the Wings 46-23, the Blizzard needed extra time and two extra shooters in the shootout to eventually claim victory. Aberdeen's Steven Johnson broke the 0-0 tie in the second period, scoring a power play goal when Blizzard forward Cody Marooney was sent to the penalty box for tripping. Justin Parizek and Peter Krieger were credited with the assist. Less than 2 minutes later the Blizzard answered. Eric Brenk buried the loose puck in front of the Wings goal at the 6:47 mark to tie the game 1-1. Brandon Parker and Even Hesse got the assists. Later in the second period Parizek was called for hooking and the Thomas Williams capitalized with the power play goal at the 10:28 mark, assisted by Eetu Karvinen and Justin Moody. The Blizzard took a 2-1 lead late into the third period but Aberdeen's Jordan Heller scored on a power play with just over 3 minutes to play in the game to tie the game 2-2. Neither team was able to score in overtime, although each team had their chances including a shot from Justin Moody that hit the post with 17 seconds to play. In the shootout, Evan Hesse scored the first goal for the Blizzard. After misses by Thomas Williams and Eetu Karvinen, Eric Brenk beat the goal to tie it 2-2. Brandon Parker, who was the seventh shooter for the Blizzard, scored what would be the game winner and the Blizzard took the victory 3-2. The Blizzard are back in action tonight in Aberdeen to take on the Wings. The puck will drop at 7:15pm and can be seen on fasthockey.com. The game can also be heard live on KBRK 1430 AM.
