Brantford Bulldogs News Release

OSHAWA, ONTARIO. The Brantford Bulldogs finished up their weekend with a trip to the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa for the third meeting of the season with the Oshawa Generals.

The Bulldogs got off to an excellent start, outshooting the Generals by a 9-1 margin through the first half of the opening frame. The opportunities paid off at 6:42 as Jorian Donovan worked the puck from the left point to the left half wall for Ben Bujold. As the Bulldogs center strode towards the net he dropped the puck off for Marek Vanacker who wrapped around the net and carried through the right circle, continuing through the slot over to the left circle, Vanacker baited a pair of Generals down to the ice and ripped a shot past Jacob Oster for his 5th of the season giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The Generals turned the game around in the second half of the period notching a pair of goals of their own. First at 11:19, Beckett Sennecke made a slick pass through a set of skates off the end boards to an open Rasmus Kumpulainen in the slot to tie the game on his 6th of the season. The Generals took the lead at 14:21 with Ben Danford's right point drive being tipped in the slot by Luke Torrance for his 2nd of the season giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage. Before the frame was out Sennecke had a terrific scoring opportunity of his own, driving the puck through the left circle and onto Drobac who came up with a brilliant blocker save to keep the Bulldogs within one heading to the 2nd period.

It was an Oshawa second period as the Generals took command of the game, scoring 3 goals in the frame. After the Generals killed off the first of a pair of Dylan Roobroeck minors in the period, Matthew Buckley's initial left side shot was stopped but the rebound landed for a charging Luke Torrance for his 2nd of the game and 3rd of the season giving the Generals a 3-1 lead. At 7:59, after a Rasmus Kumpulainen attempt was parried away from goal, the puck sat in the left circle where Luca D'Amato hammered an open shot past Matteo Drobac for his 4th of the season putting the hosts up by a 4-1 count. After both the Generals & Bulldogs traded successful penalty kills, at 15:26, a Rasmus Kumpulainen dump in led to Beckett Sennecke lifting the stick of Daniel Chen which left the puck in the slot for Connor Lockhart for another wide open shot that put the Generals up by a 5-1 score. Through 40 minutes of play, the Bulldogs looked to regroup in the locker room, trailing by a 5-1 score despite leading the game in shots by a 23-20 margin.

The third period was a much quieter affair than the opening two. David Egorov opened the final frame between the pipes and came up a trio of spectacular stops in the last twenty minutes. A pair of explosive left to right stops, first on Beckett Sennecke & secondly on Matthew Buckley in a 5-on-3 showed the skill of the Bulldogs netminder. Egorov was dented once on the same 5- on-3 as the Generals went right back to the left to right with Connor Lockhart feeding Matthew Buckley for his 8th of the season at 14:22. The Bulldogs answered with a late power-play goal of their own, after a Nick Lardis shot deflect off a Generals defender and Marek Vanacker's stick, the puck landed in the right circle for Patrick Thomas to deposit his 3rd of the season at 16:48 pulling the Bulldogs to a 6-2 game. With just 3-seconds left, Egorov made his most spectacular stop of the period with the Generals finding Stuart Rolofs down the slot for a point blank shot that Egorov kicked aside. As the final horn sounded, the Dogs fell to the Generals for the first time on the season by a 6-2 score.

The Brantford Bulldogs return home to begin their first three-in-three of the season, hosting the Sudbury Wolves on Friday night, November 10th at 7:00pm followed by the Niagara IceDogs making their first trip to the Brantford Civic Centre on Saturday, November 11th with a 4:00pm start.
