July 22, 2014 - Pioneer League (PL)
Ogden Raptors News Release

Ogden Raptors starter Jose De Leon allowed just one hit in an 8-4 win over the Billings Mustangs Monday night at Lindquist Field.

The right-hander gave up two unearned runs and struck out seven over six innings. The Puerto Rico native allowed his only hit to Garrett Boulware with two outs in the sixth.

De Leon's seven strikeouts extended his league lead to 50.

The Raptors took the lead with three runs in the first inning. Devan Ahart bunted his way on to start the game. Two batters later, Justin Chigbogu hit his league-leading ninth homer out to left. Colin Hering and Ivan Vela kept the inning going consecutive doubles to put the Raptors up 3-0.

The Raptors added a run in the third. Chigbogu hustled his way to a double on a ball up the middle with one out. Two batters later, Vela drove in another run with a single to right, putting Ogden up 4-0.

Vela came up clutch in the fifth again with another RBI single to right to bring home Cody Bellinger. Three batters later, Theo Alexander broke an 0-for-21 slide with a run-scoring single to plate Hering and gave the Raptors a 6-1 lead.

Joe Broussard converted his first professional save, pitching the final three innings and keeping the lead.

The Mustangs loss, combined with a loss from Missoula against Orem and a Great Falls win over Idaho Falls, clinched the first half for the Voyagers. Orem can clinch the first half with a win or a Grand Junction loss on Tuesday.

The Raptors and Mustangs finish their four-game series Tuesday. Jeff Brigham takes the mound for Ogden against Tejay Antone for Billings. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
