
De La Trinidad Goes Deep In Losing Effort

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Ernie De La Trinidad hit a long home run, but the Miracle dropped a Sunday afternoon contest to the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 7-3, at Hammond Stadium.
Trailing 3-0 in the fourth, De La Trinidad launched a two-run home run that cleared the drink rail seats in right. The blast, De La Trinidad's second of the season, traveled 367 feet.
Lakeland added a run in the top of the fifth after Lachlan Wells balked in Brady Policelli. The Lakeland catcher led off the frame with a double before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt. Miracle pitchers have now committed a league worst seven balks this season.
Aaron Whitefield used his legs in the bottom of the fifth to plate the Miracle's third run of the game. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Whitefield was in motion when Jacob Pearson singled into right-center. The Miracle outfielder never stopped running, scoring ahead of a relay throw to cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Flying Tigers plated a run in the sixth on a Luke Sherley ground out before striking for two runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
Wells (1-2) struggled in his fourth start of the season. The left-hander allowed five runs and a season-high 10 hits in six innings.
Calvin Faucher continued his recent string of dominance with two scoreless innings. Faucher has not allowed a run over his last five appearances (8.2 innings).
Trey Cabbage had the lone multi-hit effort for the Miracle, turning in a 2-for-4 afternoon.
Following a league wide off day on Monday, the Miracle open a three-game series on Tuesday night against the Dunedin Blue Jays, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
