Florida Fire Frogs News Release

KISSIMMEE, FLA.: Florida went back-and-forth with the Daytona early, but the Tortugas erased a 4-2 deficit and went on to win, 6-4, in eleven innings on Sunday afternoon at Osceola County Stadium.

Daytona did some early damage against RHP Freddy Tarnok. Andy Sugilio tripled with one-out in the first and was driven in on a sacrifice fly by Jose Garcia for a 1-0 Tortugas edge.

The Fire Frogs took their first lead in the second inning. Three straight hits from Jefrey Ramos and Drew Lugbauer off RHP Austin Orewiler set up Logan Brown to drill a two-run single up the middle for a 2-1 lead.

Drew Mount had the first of his two singles in the third. He would come in to score on a Sugilio knock to tie the contest at 2.

A two-out rally in the fourth pushed Florida ahead, 4-2. Brett Langhorne smacked his third homer of the year to right for the first tally. Shean Michel singled, stole a base, and would score on an Andrew Moritz base hit.

Michel notched his third three-hit game as a Fire Frog while slashing 3-4. Moritz was 2-6 and drove in a run.

Orewiler tossed four frames in his start for the Tortugas, surrendering eight hits and four earned runs while receiving a no-decision.

Tarnok churned out his second straight quality start and has allowed just three earned runs over his last three starts since returning from injury. He yielded seven hits, two runs, and mixed in a career-best seven strikeouts across seven stanzas on Sunday.

Daytona began to chip away in the eighth. Pabel Manzanero came through with an RBI knock against RHP Brooks Wilson to cut it to 4-3. RHP Brandon White got the final two outs of the frame and stranded the bases loaded to maintain the lead.

The Tortugas would get a leadoff triple from Lorenzo Cedrola in the ninth against RHP Daysbel Hernandez. Bruce Yari delivered with a sacrifice fly to even the game at 4, sending it to extras.

Despite Daytona loading the bases in the tenth, Hernandez wiggled out of trouble by also leaving the sacks full. Hernandez spun two innings of one-run baseball with two walks and two punch outs.

After the Fire Frogs couldn't score, the Tortugas loaded the bases ahead of Jose Garcia who laced a sacrifice liner to center to score the go-ahead run, 5-4. Michael Beltre added an RBI double off RHP Walter Borkovich to give Daytona its largest lead of the day, 6-4.

Borkovich (2-4) surrendered one earned run and three walks while accepting the loss.

The Tortugas bullpen was lights out in relief of Orewiler, hurling seven consecutive scoreless frames. RHP Diomar Lopez and RHP Dauri Moreta notched six outs. RHP John Ghyzel (5-2) went the final two innings to secure the victory.

Sugilio reached base four times for the Tortugas, swatting three hits, drawing a walk, scoring once, and driving in a run.

Riley Delgado and Lugbauer had multi-hit efforts for the Fire Frogs, also.

NEXT UP: After taking Monday off, the Fire Frogs continue the seven-game home stand by opening a three-game series versus the Clearwater Threshers. First pitch of Tuesday evening's contest is slated for 6 p.m.
