Dazzle to Hold Open Player Tryouts for NBDL

ROANOKE, Va., September 10, 2003 â The Roanoke Dazzle will hold open player tryouts Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12, 2003 at the Lord Botetourt High School Gymnasium on Roanoke Road in Daleville. The tryouts are a unique opportunity for players to make the Dazzle's training camp roster for the 2003-04 National Basketball Development League season.
The Dazzle tryout camp, one of six being held by teams in the NBA's minor league, will be run by Roanoke Head Coach Kent Davison and Dazzle Assistant Coach, Mike Brown. The camp is open to the first 150 players to complete all registration materials, including a registration fee of $100 (money order or cashier's check only).
All registrations must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8. Application forms are available at roanokedazzle.com or during regular business hours from the Dazzle office, at 710 Williamson Road in Roanoke.
Late applications will be accepted, based on availability, only at the Lord Botetourt Gym on Saturday, October 12 at 8 a.m., for a $125 registration fee.
The Saturday sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7:30 p.m. The coaches will select 40 candidates from the first day of tryouts to advance to Sunday's session, from 8-11:30 a.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. With NBDL approval, players from local tryouts could be invited to take part in the Dazzle's Training Camp starting November 8.
Players must be 20 years old prior to the start of their first NBDL season and should provide their own workout gear and shoes for the Dazzle tryout camp. Each player will receive an NBDL shooting T-shirt. Players are responsible for their own meals, hotel accommodations and transportation.
Both days of the tryouts will be open to the public.
The Dazzle will open its third NBDL season at the Roanoke Civic Center on Sunday, November 30, with a 4 p.m. tipoff against the Fayetteville Patriots. For Dazzle tickets, call (540) 266-1000, or go online to roanokedazzle.com.
