From Tryouts to Playoffs

September 10, 2003 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. (September 10, 2003) – Is it possible to go from a local tryout to playing for a championship? Is there a "one in a million" player with a shot at playing pro basketball out there? For the third consecutive year the National Basketball Development League is offering the opportunity to find out.

Fayetteville Patriots forward Junie Sanders proved that going from tryouts to playoffs is not an impossible dream. The Patriots signed Sanders following a local tryout at Pinecrest (N.C.) High School in October 2002. In April 2003, Sanders was playing for the Patriots in the NBDL Finals.

Local tryouts are being sponsored by each of the six NBDL teams in October. With league approval, players from each local tryout could be invited to take part in team training camps that get underway in each NBDL city on November 8.

Registration fees vary from team to team, but the pre-registration fee guarantees a spot for players on the first day of the local tryout camp. Prospective players should contact any or all of the six NBDL teams for specific registration information.

Following are the basics of each NBDL local tryout camp. Please click on each team's website or call the teams for more specific information about local tryout opportunities.
