Huntsville Flight News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., September 10, 2003 – The Huntsville Flight announced that it will hold a local open tryout for a chance to be a part of the 2003-04 team, Oct. 25-26, at the Optimist Park Recreation Center (703 Oakwood Ave., 256-427-5775).

The Saturday sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon and 2-5 p.m. with cuts held at the end of the day. Up to 10 participants from Saturday will be asked to come back Sunday to participate in an invitation-only session from 1-5 p.m.

There is a $75 registration fee for the open tryout, which guarantees a spot for the first 100 players for the first day of the camp. If spots still remain, registration is $100 for those that enroll at the door the day of the event. Prospective players should contact the Flight by phone at (256) 429-1000 for specific registration information or visit www.huntsvilleflight.com on the web.

Players must be 20 years old prior to the start of their first NBDL season and should provide their own workout gear and shoes for the Flight tryout camp. Each player will receive an NBDL shooting T-shirt. Players are responsible for t meals, hotel accommodations and transportation.

For those individuals participating in the tryout from out-of-town, Guesthouse Suites Plus (4020 Independence Dr., 256-837-8907) will provide a special room rate of $59 a day from Oct 24-26.

Last year, Demetric Shaw – a 6-foot-2 guard who played collegiately at Kent State – made it through the local tryout and the team's training camp to make the squad and play in every game for the Flight during the season.

The Flight begins its third season Nov. 21 at home against the Columbus Riverdragons. Game time is set for 7 p.m. for the Von Braun Center.
