Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Dazzle got a game-high 35 points from Will Bynum in route to a 124-113 victory over the Fayetteville Patriots at the Roanoke Civic Center.
The game was a high scoring affair from the start with Erik Daniels of the Patriots scoring 12 of his team-high 26 points in the first quarter, and leading the Patriots to a 33-29 lead. The torrid pace would continue into the second quarter with both teams scoring over 60 points by halftime, with the Dazzle holding a 67-61 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, the Dazzle were able to gain a little breathing room behind the play of Bynum and Anthony Grundy who both scored eight points in the stanza. The Dazzle entered the fourth quarter with a 94-84 lead.
The Patriots were unable to mount a rally in the fourth and the lead never dipped under eight points. Bynum controlled the quarter for the Dazzle, continually driving to the basket on his way to 12 points in the frame. The Dazzle lead would eventually reach 16 points before the final score of 124-113.
When asked about Bynum, Patriots head coach Mike Brown said "He did what he wanted. He is really the head of the snake there. He got going and everybody else followed."
The Dazzle entered the contest with only eight healthy bodies able to play, with usual starters Isiah Victor and Seth Doliboa sitting out due to injuries. Despite the short bench the Dazzle were able to outshoot the Patriots due to huge games from Bynum, Bryant Matthews who put up a double-double with 12 rebounds and a career-high 27 points, Grundy also with 27 and Tyrone Sally who chipped in 12 points coming off the bench.
"When you have a couple of guards that can make plays, you have a pretty good chance of winning." Said Dazzle head Coach Kent Davison.
For the game the Patriots had five players score in double figures with Daniels leading the way with his 26. Mike King contributed 19 points, Sharrod Ford had 17, Kevin Johnson dropped in 11 and Ryan Randle chipped in with 10 points.
The Dazzle have now won five out of their last 6 and improves to 12-13 on the season. The Dazzle will now head out west to take on the Fort Worth Flyers next Friday, February 3rd at the Forth Worth Convention Center. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. local time.
The loss drops the Patriots now drop to 5-17 on the season. The Patriots will head south to the Germain Arena in Fort Meyers, Florida to face the Florida Flame next Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
