Tulsa 66ers News Release

TULSA, Okla., January 28, 2006 - The Tulsa 66ers, along with a record-setting crowd of 3,277, were waiting to welcome the first place Florida Flame to the Expo Square Pavilion in Tulsa, Saturday night.

Tulsa returned home after an extended road trip in hopes of putting themselves back in a winning groove.

Tulsa would run into shooting woes all night, especially from the free throw line. Both teams came on rather cold in the first and were neck-and-neck until the final two minutes of the opening period when Florida went on a 9-2 run and gained control of the game leading 27-19 after the first.

Tulsa would open the second quarter on a run of their own which included an alley-oop dunk from Tulsa guard, Will Conroy, who finished with the game with a double-double (16 points and 11 assists), to the newest 66er, Eddie Basden, who was recently assigned to Tulsa from the Chicago Bulls. The run got the crowd up and on their feet and the score to 31-26.

Basden, who finished with five points and five rebounds on the night, hit a turnaround five-footer with :18 remaining in the half and sent Tulsa to the locker room down only six at 53-47.

That was as close as Tulsa would ever get as their shooting woes caught up with them in the second half, especially from the free throw line where they were just 50 percent.

"We miss way too many free throws," said Tulsa head coach Joey Meyer. "You simply cannot miss 13 free throws and expect to stay with a team like Florida."

Florida guard Andre Barrett took over the second half for the Flame, and kept Tulsa at arms length the whole night.

"Barrett just took the game over late," said Meyer. "We tried everything we could think of to stop him but we just could not. He was dynamite."

Barrett finished with a game-high 31 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Tulsa and their crowd tried to spark one last flurry in the last three minutes, but the Flame were just too much and hung on for a 102-93 finish.

The Tulsa 66ers will take on the Florida Flame again tomorrow at the Expo Square Pavilion with a 3 p.m. tipoff.
