Huntsville Flight News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Jan. 10) â Terrence Shannon scored 20 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to lift Roanoke to a 94-88 come-from-behind National Basketball Development League victory over Huntsville here Friday night at the Von Braun Center.
Shannon led four players in double figures for the Dazzle (10-11) as Gabe Muoneke added 17 points. George Wiliams also collected 16 points for Roanoke and Cory Alexander contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Flight (13-11) got a season-high 26 points from Demetric Shaw, while Brandon Williams added 15, Bakari Hendrix 13 and Lonnie Harrell 11.
"We started off slow tonight...as Huntsville came out playing zone and we missed a lot of shots," Dazzle coach Kent Davison. "Then we started to catch fire shooting and pulled it to within four points at half. That really gave us some life and in the second half as we really played great defense and they missed some shots they normally hit."
Roanoke, who dressed just eight players and got into foul trouble early, trailed 45-41 at the intermission but rallied in the third quarter. The Dazzle cut a seven-point deficit in the period and forced the first tie of the game with 1:40 to go as Shannon collected a dunk off a steal to tie the score at 63.
After Huntsville retook the lead on a pair of Brandon Williams free throws, the Dazzle scored the last four points of the period as Shannon hit two free throws and Mike King added a jumper to give Roanoke a 67-65 lead after three quarters.
The Flight stayed close and cut the gap to one after Hendrix hit a 12-footer to notch the score 79-78 with 4:23 to play, but the Dazzle scored eight of the next 10 points to give them a 87-80 advantage with 1:58 remaining. Huntsville trimmed the margin to three in the final minute but Shannon hit six straight free throws down the stretch to help secure the win.
"Nineteen turnovers sums up why we lost this game," Flight coach Ralph Lewis said. "We'll try to continue to execute better offensively and defensively. We've added some new guys to the team and it will take a little time for everyone to get on the same page. But it is like I always say this is a marathon not a sprint."
The Flight built as much as a 14-point first quarter lead as they converted 12-of-14 free throws in the opening period to hold a 28-22 lead after one and 45-41 at intermission.
The Dazzle return to action Saturday at 7 p.m CT at Mobile, while the Flight travel to North Charleston for a 6 p.m. CT game.
