G League NBA G League

A Month Ahead of Schedule

January 10, 2003 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

On Jan. 8 Mobile's Rafer Alston signed a 10-day contract with the Toronto Raptors, making him the fifth NBA callup for the NBDL this season. Last year, during the league's inaugural season, the fifth NBDL callup didn't happen until the Los Angeles Clippers signed former Columbus Riverdragon Tremaine Fowlkes to his first 10-day contract on Feb. 23, 2002. Fowlkes is still on the Clippers active roster.

Road Record

The Fayetteville Patriots can set the NBDL record for consecutive road victories with a win at Asheville Saturday night. Coach Jeff Capel's crew has won eight straight road games and is 9-2 overall on the road. The Patriots have not lost on the road since a 97-89 setback at Asheville on Nov. 23.

All-Star Opportunity in Columbus

Immediately following Friday's game, Columbus-area basketball talent will compete for spots in the finals of the Riverdragons Be An All-Star Slam Dunk Competition and the Be An All-Star 3-Point Shootout. Finalists from Friday's preliminaries will have the opportunity to win two tickets to the 2003 NBA All-Star Weekend in Atlanta. The finals for the 3-Point Shootout will be held during a quarter-break Saturday when the Riverdragons host defending NBDL champion Greenville. The finals for the Slam Dunk Contest will be held Martin Luther King Day, Monday, Jan. 20, during halftime of the Riverdragons 2 p.m. meeting with Huntsville.

Going into the Weekend, Who is the NBDL's Hottest?
-Scorer - Columbus' Nate Johnson has averaged 20.5 points over his last four games.
-FG Shooter- Mobile's Derek Hood has converted 20 of his last 28 field goal attempts.
-FT Shooter- Greenville's Donald Hand has made 10 straight free throws.
-Rebounder- Huntsville's Rodney Bias is averaging 10.7 rebounds over the last three games.
-Assist Man- Roanoke's Cory Alexander has dished out 5.7 per game over the last three games.
-Thief- Greenville's Billy Thomas and Asheville's Jeff Trepagnier each have nine steals in their last three games.
-3-Point Man- Fayetteville's Matt Barnes has made nine of his last 14.

What if They Played 48?

NBDL games consist of four 10-minute quarters, the only rule difference from the parent NBA. If the statistics were projected over a 48-minute game like the NBA plays, Fayetteville guard Devin Brown would be averaging a league-leading 31.5 points per game. Rodney Bias' 21.3 rebounds per game would also lead the league. Fayetteville reserve guard Omar Cook would be averaging a league-best 10.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game.
