Daytona Tortugas News Release

FORT MYERS, FL- The Fort Myers Miracle (1-0) picked up right where they left off the first half of the season, as they defeated the Daytona Cubs (0-1), 6-4 at Hammond Stadium.

Daytona scored three runs in the opening frame thanks to a big two-out error by Miracle first baseman Rene Leveret. The Cubs started off the inning with three straight hits, which culminated with a RBI-double from designated hitter Brandon Guyer. Jovan Rosa eventually came up with two outs and runners at second and third. He bounced one towards first base that snuck under the glove of Leveret and allowed two runs to come in.

Daytona would add another run in the second inning, but Fort Myers scored one in the first, another in the second, and three more in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead.

The big third inning for Fort Myers was the result of three straight hits, including a two-run triple from third baseman Deibinson Romero. Ryan Searle (5-6) continued his struggles on the road as he allowed six runs, five earned, over four and two thirds innings.

The Miracle tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The FSL hits leader, Ben Revere, reached on a Jake Opitz error. He stole second base and then came in on another extra base hit by Romero.

Miracle start Tyler Robertson (5-3) settled down after a rough start and held the Cubs scoreless in his final three innings of work to earn the win.

The Miracle bullpen took over from there and allowed just two hits over the last four innings. Blair Erickson picked up his eighth save of the year after he pitched a perfect ninth inning. The Cubs and Miracle will play the second game of a four game series with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
