Daytona Cubs Update

Daytona Tortugas News Release


*There has been a changing of the guard at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. December 18th was the last day of operation for the 2003 Daytona Cubs Booster Club and the first day of operation for the 2004 Daytona Cubs Fan Club.

The Booster Club passed over the reigns and bank balance to the Daytona Cubs front office staff. The Cubs staff has assumed the position of Fan Club President and now has control of the best Fan Club in baseball. Last years group aided not only the Daytona Cubs staff, but also all Daytona Cubs players and coaches.

This should be a smooth transition, as the Cubs are planning many of the same activities and benefits that were offered in 2003. One major difference that everyone will notice is the cost. Now, for only $10 per person and an additional $5 per each family member, everyone can afford to be a part of the Daytona Cubs Fan Club. Local, as well as distant fans are encouraged to join today. Every little bit helps aid our players during their short stay in beautiful Daytona Beach.

Attached you will find a new Daytona Cubs Fan Club Application and a photo of the changing of the guard. Fill it out, send it in and become a part of the excitement for 2004.

The Cubs staff is not going at it alone in 2004; there will be some carry over positions that will aid the Cubs as a Fan Club Board. Linda Lutrell will once again head up the Cubby Closet and Jerry Hale will handle all website and photography duties. That leaves three spots open that the Cubs would love some help with. We are looking for two liaisons between the Cubs staff and our Clubhouse Manager Kris Nichols. These two individuals will aid all communications between the Fan Club and the team. We also are in need of one individual that can help facilitate and over see all fundraising activities that the Fan Club will be taking on for the 2004 season.

If anyone is interested, please email your level of interest to michaelswope@daytonacubs.com. The Cubs staff is hoping to fill theses positions immediately and is going to complete the Board in the most diplomatic way we could decide on – a vote!

**Snyder's of Hanover and the Daytona Cubs have reached an agreement for the 2004 season. Snyder's will be the Official Potato Chip of the Daytona Cubs. Snyder's offers an assortment of potato chips, pretzels and nacho chips, which the Cubs plan on having available to all fans throughout the upcoming season. This is a great addition to the ballpark, the Cubs have went too long with not having potato chips and pretzels available to our fans.

***Most fans think that Thursday nights at Jackie Robinson Ballpark are as good as it gets. Well fans, it just got better. The Daytona Cubs are happy to announce that in addition to $1 draft beers and sodas, every Thursday night will also be $0.25 Wing Night. The Cubs have 11 Thursday games scheduled for the 2004 season, so that is 11 nights that fans can take advantage of 25 Cent Wings. And yes, you could only buy one wing if you would like, but it will cost you 25 cents. Look for the wing special on Thursday nights in the Cubs Bar & Grill area, located along City Island Parkway behind the 3rd base bleachers.

****Tired of trying to find parking for a Daytona Cubs home game? Fans can now take advantage of Votran's late night service to Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Votran and the Daytona Cubs have teamed up for Votran Senior Tuesdays. All Tuesday night games at the ballpark will be sponsored by Votran Bus Lines and all fans 55 & Older will receive one free ticket with the purchase of another ticket of equal or greater value courtesy of Votran Bus Lines.
