Daytona Tortugas News Release

[DAYTONA BEACH, FL] On June 20, 2007 the Daytona Cubs will step away from scenic Jackie Robinson Ballpark to play at beautiful Melching Field at Conrad Park in DeLand for one game against the Palm Beach Cardinals. The game is presented by Tennant Printing Company.

"It is great that the Cubs would bring this game to DeLand. We hope that the people of West Volusia County will come out and support this great night, benefiting a great cause," said Tennant Printing Company owner, Murray Miller.

The great cause Miller was referring to is Faith, Hope & Charity. Faith, Hope & Charity Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the spirit of service and enhancing the quality of life in the community of DeLand.

"The city of DeLand is excited to host the Daytona Cubs, with proceeds from the game benefiting local charities throughout DeLand. It is our hope the community will come out and enjoy an evening of exciting Minor League Baseball right here in DeLand!" said Bob Apgar, Mayor of DeLand.

Faith, Hope & Charity in conjunction with the Cubs will also hold a silent auction during the game. Both organizations are currently working to enable residents to join forces to promote the awareness of community service.

"The City of DeLand and Stetson University have been incredibly hospitable in allowing this game to be played at Melching Field, besides it is the Cubs and the Cardinals, and at any level that means a good game" added Tennant's Miller.

This will be the Cubs second appearance to Melching Field in DeLand. In 2004 after Hurricane Charley swept through Jackie Robinson Ballpark the Cubs played two games in DeLand as Jackie Robinson Ballpark underwent repairs.

"This is a great opportunity to regionalize the Cubs to the people of West Volusia," said Cubs' General Manager Bill Papierniak. "The Cubs are proud to showcase Minor League Baseball to the DeLand community and benefit a great and worthy cause."

Ticket prices are $10 for V.I.P., $6 for children and seniors, and $7 for general admission. Group tickets are available for groups of 20 or more. Gates will open at 6:00pm as the first pitch will be thrown at 7:05pm. For more information or tickets, contact the Cubs front office at (386) 257-3172 or visit www.daytonacubs.com.
