Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - In preparation for a Saturday scrimmage, Head Coach Ervin Bryson was excited to see the performance of the Daytona Beach Thunder during the third day of practice Friday at the Mulberry Field.

Offensively, second string quarterback Jose Laureano had a good day of practice, adjusting well during red zone situations.

"Laureano made some good plays tonight,'' Bryson said. "At times, he tried too much to throw the ball too much on the rope, but he made the proper adjustments of putting a little air on the ball."

Defensively, Bethune-Cookman College product Levar Simms appears to be doing better as a second string linebacker competing for playing time.

"Levar did a good job representing today," Bryson said. "We're hoping to motivate him to try and see was he going to be willing to step up to the test of competition. He did a great job of adjusting and not getting frustrated."

Among the locals, Deland's Dee Patrick responded to Bryson's critiques before practice began and turned into strong effort.

"He did a good job of playing a little slower on the defensive end and not getting so excited and trying to attack so much," Bryson said. "He did a good job of listening to what we had to say and he even stopped a few plays."

The Thunder will have its first intrasquad scrimmage Saturday at 11 a.m. at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand. Bryson will face off against his brother, defensive coordinator Monterey Evans, and "is extremely confident" that his team will be victorious.

Admission is free and the public is invited to the scrimmage.
