Dayton Introduces New Ownership Group

December 4, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release

ROCHESTER, MI--- The Dayton Gems held a press conference Thursday afternoon to introduce the new ownership to the community after the IHL's Board of Governors voted to terminate the former Dayton Gems' ownership group's right to operate the team. The Dayton Gems will now be owned and operated by GDHP, LLC, which is a group managed by Rob Garfield, Kathy Rupp and Dr. Paul Nitz.

"The IHL believes with local ownership that the team has a much better chance to fill the building and bring in corporate sponsors for this season and the future." stated Dennis Hextall, IHL President. "I am looking forward to working closely with the new ownership group during the transition."

The Gems will host the Fort Wayne Komets at Hara Arena on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and the Port Huron Icehawks on Sunday night also at 7:30 p.m. The IHL would like to thank the Dayton fans for their continued support and is pleased that IHL hockey will remain in Dayton this season and for years to come.

"The IHL wishes Richard Bruner and Ryan Yerrick the best of luck with their future endeavors," said Hextall. "The Gems fan can thank those gentlemen for bringing hockey back to Dayton."
