
Dayton Gems Sign Defensemen Iain McPhee And Russell Smith

The Dayton Gems, proud members of the International Hockey League, announced the signing of defensemen Iain Mcphee and Russell Smithto contracts.
Iain McPhee joined the IHL earlier this season. He played his first 10 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks before joining the Quad City Mallards. He accumulated 17 games with these teams before being signed today to the Dayton Gems. The 6'2", 209 pound left hander is a native of Pickering, Ontario. He spent 3 seasons with the University of Prince Edward Island as a Panther scoring 5 goals with 14 assists for a total of 19 points. McPhee completed a four year (2002-06) junior hockey career with the Ontario Hockey Leagues' Windsor Spitfires.
Russell Smith became an IHL player with the Bloomington Prairie Thunder halfway through the 2008 - 09 season. This season the 6'4" left hander has been with Bloomington and the Quad City Mallards for a total of 44 games with 4 goals and 11 assists. Smith spent 4 years at Elmira College as a Soaring Eagle he was part of two final four teams in the NCAA Frozen Four. The 220 pound native of Annapolis Maryland is 24 years old.
The Gems have waived Chris Myrho.
Tonight at 7:30pm it's time to start your engines. It's Auto Racing night when the Gems meet the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Chat withrepresentatives from Shady Bowl and Mid Ohio Raceways. All race fans are welcome. It's also Frothy Friday with $2 Drafts.
The Gems follow the lumberjacks back to Muskegon for a back to back battle. Fans can head to the Gems website: www.daytongems.netand join Tom Michaels for the play by play on the B2 network.
Valentines Day will be the day to bring your sweetheart to Hara for the game against Quad City at 5pm. The first 1st 700 ladies will receive carnations courtesy of Furst Florist. After the game join the Gems on the ice for a chance to Skate with the Team.
That evening is also the Gems 1st "City vs City Night". The Gems welcome friends, families, businesses and local groups from Vandalia and Englewood to support theircommunities. Group seating is available and Northmont and Vandalia Butler schools are encouraged to participate.
Saturday, February 20th at Hara Arena as the Gems take on the Fort Wayne Komets at 730pm Dayton Spiritual Television will be hosting the evening sponsored by DATV (Time Warner Local Cable Access Station). Faith groups are encouraged to attend and group seating is available. Dayton Spiritual TV will be in the lobby handing out information and signing people up for prize drawings.
That evening is also the Gems "City vs City Night". The Gems welcome friends, families, businesses and local groups from Kettering to support theircommunities. Group seating is available. Fairmont and Alter schools are encouraged to participate.
All adult tickets only $10. Student and Children tickets $7. Groups are welcome and parking is free.
Each Monday evening join the GemsatFox and Hound in Beavercreekat 9pm as they become Miami Valley Idoljudges.
This Thursday have lunch with the players at Brixx downtown. See you at noon!.
