PORT HURON, MI - The Flint Generals defeated the Port Huron Icehawks 3-1 at McMorran Arena on Friday to open a three game mini-series between the rivals.

The Icehawks will look for revenge tomorrow when they travel to Perani Arena for a 7:30 p.m. game. The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at McMorran Arena at 5 p.m.

The loss was the third in a row for Port Huron. The Icehawks fall to 29-15-0-3, but remain in second place in the International Hockey League standings. The last place Generals improve to 16-24-2-4.

The Generals skated to a 1-0 lead in the first period thanks to a Jamie Schaafsma power play goal at 5:49. Dan Lapointe assisted on the play. The Generals outshot the Icehawks 15-6 in the first and 36-27 overall.

The Icehawks tied the contest midway through the second period with a power play goal of their own off the stick of Brandon Kaleniecki, on assists from Daniel Tetrault and Nick Lindberg. The contest didn't remain tied for long, as the Generals regained the lead when John Ronan scored at 11:24. The Icehawks outshot the Generals 13-11 in the second.

The third period went scoreless until 19:09 when Bryan Smolinski scored in an empty net to make the final score 3-1. The Generals held the shots advantage 10-8 in the third.

Flint goalie Rob Nolan made 26 saves on 27 shots for the win, while Port Huron's Larry Sterling made 33 saves.
