
Dayton Drops Cyclones, 6-2, Monday

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Dayton Bombers forward Paul Kelly scored three goals and added an assist as they upended the Cincinnati Cyclones, 6-2, Monday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The Cyclones hold a three games to two edge in the best-of-seven North Division Finals. Jeff Hristovski added three assists for the Bombers in the triumph.
Dayton opened the scoring 3:39 into the game, when forward Paul Kelly netted his fourth goal of the postseason from Jeff Hristovski. The Cyclones tied the game at 1-1, when Mathieu Aubin tipped in a Nick Martens shot from the point. Aubin's goal was his third of the Kelly Cup playoffs, as he stood at the right goalpost and re-routed the shot. Veteran forward Sam Ftorek added the second assist on the score. The Bombers regained the lead at 15:27, when Kelly re-directed a shot between the circles from a shot from the point from Brad Farynuk.and a second assist from Hristovski. The shots on goal in the opening period favored Cincinnati by a 9-8 edge.
The Cyclones opened the scoring in the second period when defenseman Rory Rawlyk netted his first goal of the playoffs at 6:31 on the power play to tie the game at 2-2. The Bombers regained the lead 26 seconds later when Tim Konsorada picked up his first of the playoffs at 6:57. Dayton extended the lead to 4-2 when Kelly completed his hat trick at 17:06 with a delayed penalty goal.
Dayton scored a pair of third period goals to round out the scoring. Joe Cullen netted his second of the postseason at 5:30, as Brent Walton added the assist. Yannick Tifu collected his second of the playoffs at 15:41 to make the final, 6-2.
With the victory, Dayton has closed the best-of-seven series deficit to three games to two. Game six shifts to the Nutter Center on Wednesday night (May 2) at 7pm. Should the Bombers win again, a seventh game would also be in Dayton on Thursday night (May 3) at 7pm. The winner of the North Division Finals will meet the winner of the South Division Finals for the American Conference championship. That series will begin the week of May 7.
