Dragons On The Field
The Dragons open up the second half of the 2012 season with two Eastern Division rivals in Bowling Green and Lake County. Dayton went 16-13 over the final 29 games of the first half to finish with a 30-40 record. They won five of the final six series to build some momentum heading into the second half. The Dragons can qualify for the playoffs by finishing the second half with one of the two best records from among the six Eastern Division teams that have not yet clinched a playoff berth. In 2011, the Dragons finished fourth in the division in the first half before surging in the second half to win the division and set the franchise record in wins (83).
Ryan Wright was the Dragons' representative in the 2012 Midwest League All-Star Game in Geneva, Ill. on June 19th. The Eastern Division beat the Western Division, 18-2. Wright was a reserve, and appeared as the designated hitter. He went one-for-three with a run batted in after entering the game in the fifth inning. The Eastern Division scored 13 runs in the first two innings.
Former major leaguer Delino DeShields is in his second season as manager for Dayton in 2012. He enters his fourth season in the Reds organization, having served as the manager of the Billings Mustangs in 2010 and as the hitting coach in Billings in 2009. Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer Tom Browning joins the staff as the pitching coach, and Alex Pelaez is in his second year as the team's hitting coach.
