LANSING, Mich. - Lansing Lugnuts pitcher Jesse Hernandez, who brought a no-hitter into the eighth inning at Fort Wayne on June 12th, has been honored as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 11-17.

The Grand Rapids native first gained notice as Lansing's April Player of the Month, posting a 2-1 record with a 1.07 ERA in 25 1/3 innings, though it was his most recent outing that grabbed the most headlines.

Pitching at Parkview Field, Hernandez allowed a first inning TinCaps sacrifice fly before settling into a dominant groove. Only a Travis Whitmore infield single leading off the bottom of the eighth denied the right-hander a chance at etching his name into the MWL record books. In total, Hernandez struck out eight Fort Wayne batsmen while walking just one in a 1-0 loss.

Signed as a nondrafted free agent from Central Michigan University, the 23-year-old Hernandez was 4-4 with a 2.29 ERA in 13 appearances (12 starts) with the Lugnuts before earning a June 15th promotion to Class A-Advanced Dunedin.

Hernandez is the second Lugnut to receive a Midwest League weekly honor in 2012, joining outfielder Kevin Pillar (Hitter of the Week, May 7-13).

The Lugnuts open the second half at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, June 22nd, starting the second half with a three-game series against the Great Lakes Loons. The game features a Kids Eat Free special, with all kids 12 and younger receiving a free hot dog, bag of potato chips and fountain drink. After the game, fans will be treated to a LAFCU Fireworks show.

Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
