Dayton Firefighters Night
The Dayton Dragons will welcome the Dayton Area Firefighters to Day Air Ballpark on Wednesday, August 3. Through this partnership and fundraising effort, half of every ticket sold will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to raise awareness and help combat this disease. Pre-game festivities will include interactive tables and booths located in the plaza for all fans to enjoy. Activities will range from educational set-ups, such as an interactive CPR table, to more vehicle-oriented displays like fire and ladder trucks that fans can take pictures with.
Fireworks Night
The Dragons have scheduled six post-game fireworks shows at Day Air Ballpark during the 2022 season, with the next one set for Saturday, August 6. All of the shows are presented by Associated Builders and Contractors. The fireworks show will begin after the conclusion of the Dragons game, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
Kroger Baseball Buddies
Children ages 7-13 can enter to win to be a Kroger Baseball Buddy, which will take place again at Day Air Ballpark on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7. Each winner will get to enter the ballpark early on game days, receive a custom Dragons jersey, hat, backpack, autographed baseball, photo opportunities, and more souvenirs. Buddies will also be a part of the Dragons starting lineup on their game day. Visit www.daytondragons.com/buddies to learn more.
Dragons On The Field
The Dragons won three of their last four games on their road trip that ended Sunday against first place West Michigan. The Whitecaps had gone 18-4 over the previous 22 games heading into Thursday, but the Dragons defeated them three straight nights, thanks in part to the return to Dayton of Brian Rey and Quincy McAfee, both key members of the 2021 Dragons.
While no official announcement has been made, several credible publications have indicated that the Dragons will receive shortstop Noelvi Marte, the top prospect acquired by the Reds in the weekend trade that sent all-star Luis Castillo to Seattle. Interestingly, MLB.com now ranks Marte as the Reds #1 prospect, just ahead of former Dragons star Elly De La Cruz. Baseball America ranks De La Cruz #1 and Marte #2.
The Dragons have received hard-throwing starting pitcher Chase Petty from Single-A Daytona. Petty was acquired in March from the Twins in exchange for major leaguer Sonny Gray. Petty is a top-10 prospect in the Reds organization and prior to the potential arrival of Marte, ranks as the top prospect on the current Dragons roster.
Right-handed starting pitcher Joe Boyle now features an earned run average for the year of 1.97. Opposing batters have combined to hit just .098 against him in 2022.
Catcher Daniel Vellojin was promoted to Double-A Chattanooga this past week. Vellojin hit .271 with five home runs for the Dragons across 21 games.
The Dragons have seven players on MLB Pipeline's Top 30 Reds Prospects list. The top prospects on the Dragons roster include right-handed pitcher Chase Petty, infielder Tyler Callihan, outfielder Austin Hendrick, catcher Mat Nelson, right-handed pitcher Christian Roa, infielder Jose Torres, and right-handed pitcher Joe Boyle.
