Dayton Dragons News Release

Thursday, June 30, 2022 l Game # 72 (6)

Dow Diamond l Midland, Mich. l 7:05 p.m.

Radio: Fox Sports 980 WONE

Dayton Dragons (3-2, 42-29) at Great Lakes Loons (4-1, 44-27)

RH Miguel Medrano (1-0, 1.93) vs. RH Kendall Williams (1-3, 3.43)

Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Great Lakes Loons (affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers) at Dow Diamond. This is game three of a six-game series.

Season Series: Great Lakes 6, Dayton 2. Current Series: Dayton 1, Great Lakes 1.

Last Game: Wednesday: Dayton 2, Great Lakes 1 (10 innings). Ashton Creal's sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning broke a 1-1 tie, and Donovan Benoit overcame the free runner in the bottom of the 10th to preserve the lead and win. Dragons starting pitcher Joe Boyle struck out 12 in five innings, a career-high for Boyle, and two short of the club record. He allowed just one hit and no runs. Dragons pitchers struck out 17 to match the season high while walking only three and allowing just four hits.

What's Next: The 66-game second half is underway. The Dragons could qualify for the playoffs in one of two ways: 1) By winning the second half East Division title; 2) By finishing with the next best full-season record in the East Division (behind Great Lakes) should Great Lakes win the second half division title. If the same team wins both halves, the team with the next best full-season record qualifies as the second half representative.

Team Notes

Dayton has gone 3-2 in the second half despite being outscoring 41-20. Opponents have scored 35 runs in the two Dragons losses and six runs in the three Dayton wins.

Dayton is first in the MWL in home runs with 85. However, the Dragons lead the league in strikeouts (their total of 832 is tied for second most in Minor League Baseball).

Player Notes

Elly De La Cruz (seventh youngest position player in the league with at least 120 AB) over his last 30 games (since May 25) is batting .330 with eight home runs and 21 RBI. Joe Boyle has an earned run average of 0.65 and opponent's batting average of .086 on the year. Both figures would lead all Minor League Baseball, but he is one and one-third innings short of the minimum number to qualify.
