Day 4 of preseason and a day off the turf for the Colorado Rapids
January 27, 2015 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release
Day four of preseason for the Colorado Rapids took them away from the turf fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park and on to the grass pitches for some gentle jogging. After three days on the turf, it was decided not to push the players' bodies too much at this early stage.
The Rapids were joined in camp by Bobby Burling, Sam Cronin and Marcelo Sarvas. Burling, sporting a tan from his recent honeymoon, looked relaxed. Cronin stopped by for an interview with ColoradoRapids.com (above), while Sarvas was deep in conversation with his former LA Galaxy teammate - and now head coach - Pablo Mastroeni.
There are also a number of trialists in camp, including defenders Wes Knight and Ben Newnam. Both are full-backs. Knight has previous MLS experience with Vancouver Whitecaps, and has also spent time with San Antonio Scorpions and FC Edmonton. Newnam is a 23-year-old currently with the Rapids' USL PRO affiliate, Charlotte Independence. He spent two seasons at Charlotte Eagles.
Other news from inside the camp includes word on a 'new look' Marc Burch (pictured right). The experienced defender has returned fitter and leaner than he's ever been in his career. Indeed, he is at a weight not enjoyed since high school, such is his desire to be at his best for the Rapids this season.
