Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Yard Dawgz continue to add local talent to an already impressive roster. Head Coach Sparky McEwen officially announced the additions of former University of Oklahoma wide receiver Antwone Savage, former Northwestern Oklahoma State University star Al Hunt and Northeastern Oklahoma State Running Back Craig Fulton Jr.
Al Hunt (5'11, 205) rejoins the Yard Dawgz for his seventh season with the team. Hunt is the team's career leader in receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns and tackles. He finished the 2009 season as the arenafootball2 league's all-time leader in touchdowns and scoring. In his career, Hunt has 581 receptions for 8,143 yards and 188 touchdowns while rushing for 242 yards and 30 touchdowns. The former Ranger led Northwestern Oklahoma State University to a National Championship in 1999 and was a two-time All-American.
"Al has been with our organization from day one and it is very exciting to know that Al will finish his career with us at the highest level," Head Coach McEwen said. "Al has truly been a fixture in Oklahoma City and within the Yard Dawgz organization. His play on the field has consistently shown the dedication and work ethic that it takes to be the best."
Antwone Savage (5'11, 187) joins the Yard Dawgz for his first season after playing five years in the Arena Football League and arenafootball2. The former Sooner has played for the Spokane Shock, South Georgia Wildcats and had a brief stint with the Dallas Desperados. In five seasons, he has amassed 353 receptions for 5,326 yards and 145 touchdowns. Savage played for the University of Oklahoma from 1999-2002, winning a National Championship for Bob Stoops in 2000. During his career at OU, Savage had 157 receptions (5th all-time) for 2,009 yards (4th all-time) and 13 touchdowns. He was also a dangerous return threat, gaining 993 yards on kick returns (4th all-time).
"The addition of Savage to our group of receivers will give us one of the most potent receiving corps in arena football," McEwen added. "Savage is one of the most respected receivers in arena football and he thought that it was important to come home and play in front of Sooner fans."
Craig Fulton Jr. (5'10, 180) returns to the Yard Dawgz after joining the team via a trade last season. In 2009 with the Yard Dawgz, Fulton played in 11 games, catching 58 passes for 907 yards and 11 touchdowns. Before joining the Dawgz, Fulton spent his entire career with the Amarillo Dusters of the arenafootball2 league. During that time, Fulton Jr. became the Dusters all-time leader in receptions (194), receiving yards (2,125), kickoff return yards (1,890) and combined return yards (1,976). Fulton Jr. makes an impact on both sides of the ball but is especially dangerous returning kicks. In 2008, Fulton Jr. was the second-leading receiver for Amarillo with 68 catches for 632 yards and 10 TDs. He added 613 yards on kick returns and an interception. In 2007, he finished the season ranked #2 in the league on kick-off returns, averaging 23.8 yards per return and 2 touchdowns. Fulton was named to the Lone Star Conference North Division All-Conference Second Team his senior season.
"Last season, Craig made an immediate impact to an already exciting group of receivers. His speed and athleticism is something that you just don't find everyday in arena football," McEwen continued. "Craig is excited about completing some unfinished business with the Yard Dawgz."
The Yard Dawgz will play all their 2010 home games at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The regular season begins in April and runs through July with playoffs in August.
Yard Dawgz season tickets are available now for the 2010 season, starting as low as $63! For additional information, please call (405) 228-3294 or visit www.okcyarddawgz.com.
