April 24, 2008 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
Chris Davis launched a walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to propel the Frisco RoughRiders (15-4) past the San Antonio Missions (9-10) on Thursday, April 24 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The night marked another milestone for Dr Pepper Ballpark as the 3,000,000th fan passed through the turnstiles at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
San Antonio got off to an early lead in the first inning when Drew Macias singled to right field with the bases loaded and scored Brett Dowdy. The âRiders answered in the second inning when Emerson Frostad hit his first home run of the season to tie the game. Two batters later Adam Fox hit his third home run of the season to give Frisco a one run lead.
The 2-1 Frisco lead would not last as the Missions loaded the bases in the third inning and Chad Huffman scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Seth Johnston then singled and plated Kyle Blanks. Craig Cooper followed with a base hit up the middle that scored Macias and gave the Missions a 4-2 lead.
Frisco cut into the San Antonio lead in their half of the third when Steve Murphy doubled to right field and later scored on a John Mayberry base hit. The Missions got that run back in the fourth when Chad Huffman homered to left field.
The RoughRiders scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth frames to tie the game at five. The game would remain tied until the seventh inning when Mayberry led off the inning with his third home run of the season. The âRiders seemed to be heading for another victory but Dowdy hit a home run in the ninth to send the game into extra innings. In the tenth inning with a full count Davis hit a blast to left field that gave the âRiders the win.
Murphy and Mayberry led the Frisco offense from the top of the line up going 5-for-10 with two RBI and a run scored. Adam Fox added to the offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. John Bannister made his Frisco debut and worked the first three innings. Alfredo Gonzalez, Dan Touchet, Warner Madrigal, and Kendy Batista came out of the bullpen to pitch seven innings striking out seven while allowing two runs on four hits. Batista (2-1) picked up the victory in relief while Jonathan Ellis (1-1) took the loss for San Antonio.
With the victory, the âRiders tied a team record for victories in the month of April with 15. The 2007 RoughRiders also won 15 games in April.
The âRiders next open a four game series at Dr Pepper Ballpark with the Corpus Christi Hooks. Jake Dittler (0-0, 9.00) takes the hill for Frisco in the opener while the Hooks counter with Brad James (2-1, 1.93). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
