CORPUS CHRISTI - J.D. Davis cracked his Texas League-leading 18th home run in Corpus Christi's 4-2 victory over Frisco Sunday at Whataburger Field before 4,055.

Hooks pitching coach Dave Borkowski deployed three pitchers, each of whom drew a three-inning segment: Yoanys Quiala, Cy Sneed (7-4), and Josh James, who notched his second save.

Corpus Christi (4-2; 38-38) had the makings of a big second inning. Davis drove a double down the left-field line and advanced 90 feet on Trent Woodward 's right-side ground out. Davis was retired at the plate by third baseman Juremi Profar 's throw to Kevin Torres when Jamie Ritchie bounced into a fielder's choice. Dexture McCall 's base hit and an Antonio Nunez walk filled the bases, but Arturo Michelina flew out to right.

The Hooks scratched in the third against Yohander Mendez (5-5), singles from Jason Martin and Ramon Laureano preceding Kyle Tucker 's sacrifice fly.

Quiala threw 45 pitches (28 strikes) before retiring for the evening. He permitted two first-inning singles and struck out one.

Davis' home run - a 398-foot bomb to left off Mendez with Laureano at the keystone - lengthened the lead to 3-0 through five. Laureano drew a one-out walk and swiped second.

Sneed encountered sixth-inning difficulty, Frisco (3-3; 34-42) stringing together singles from Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Scott Heineman, Luke Tendler, and Jose Trevino for two runs.

McCall reached for the third time in his Double-A debut with a one-out triple during the sixth and sprinted home when Clayton Cook uncorked a wild pitch.

Only two RoughRiders reached base against James, who struck out four in his stint.

The Davis double extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

After the Texas League all-star break, Corpus Christi travels to Northwest Arkansas and Arkansas, returning to Whataburger Field on Wednesday, July 5 vs. the Naturals.
