Daugavins Does it All in Win Over Saginaw

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors put an end to their three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Saginaw Spirit this evening. Kaspars Daugavins led the way with 3 goals and 1 assist. The Majors record improves to 8-11-1-0 as a result.

It took a little while for the Majors to find their skating legs and Saginaw took full advantage as Jordan Szwarz grabbed an early goal at 4:13. Then, Chris Chappell connected at 11:40 to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

In the 2nd period the Majors quickly jumped back into the game when Daugavins ripped home a power-play slap shot at 6:33 after receiving Matt McCready and Rob Kwiet passes. Then, Daugavins tied it up at 13:37 with a second man-advantage tally, this time off of Kwiet and Jesse Messier feeds.

Tyler Murovich put the visitors back in front with an unassisted marker at 3:17 of the 3rd period. However, the Majors dug deep and Messier answered with a goal at 13:49, with the lone assist going to Daugavins, to knot up the affair. Then, Daugavins' hat trick goal, on a shorthanded breakaway at 15:59, secured the win for Mississauga.

Anthony Grieco provided 22 saves for Mississauga while Parker Van Buskirk stopped 17 shots for Saginaw. The Majors power-play was 2 for 9 while the Spirit went 0 for 4. The game's three stars were Daugavins (1st), Grieco (2nd) and Murovich (3rd).

The Majors are back on the road this Sunday afternoon when they battle the Sudbury Wolves at 2 p.m. This game is available via webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.

Mississauga returns home to host the Barrie Colts next Friday evening (November 23) at 7:30 p.m.
