Danville Dashers News Release
It was an offense oriented game on Sunday evening when the Danville Dashers met the Carolina Thunderbirds in Danville.
The Thunderbirds got the scoring started in the high point when CJ Blaszka blasted one past the right shoulder of goalie Matt Khaludis to make the score 1-0. The Dashers would respond with 2 straight goals as Aaron Atwell sent a controversial goal slightly past net minder Christian Pavlas that passed the red line, bounced out and was taken down the ice and scored on the other end by the Thunderbirds. After the dust settled the goal was awarded to the Dashers and not long after that Michael Dolman would score to make the score at the end of the 1st period 2-1.
The second period scoring would start just like the first ended with Michael Dolman scoring on a backhander to make the score 3-1. This would be the lone goal of the period but physicality would take the place of scoring with multiple brawls and body checks breaking out all over the ice.
The third period would see an explosion of offense by the Thunderbirds as Chase Fallis would score one and team captain Josh Pietrantonio would score 2 goals back to back to not only bring the Thunderbirds back but put them ahead with the closing minutes of the game looming.
Newly acquired Dasher Ahmed Mahfouz would put the team on his back with only 2 minutes remaining and with the home goalie pulled on a power play to score the game tying goal to send the game into sudden death overtime.
Overtime was looking to remain scoreless with both teams taking possession of the puck numerous times but with fruitless shots until Ahmed Mahfouz was able to use some fancy maneuvering to get around Chase Fallis and in front of Pavlas to sink the game winning goal in OT to give the Dashers the win with 2 minutes left.
The Danville Dashers will be in action next weekend against Watertown on Friday March 2nd in New York as the Carolina Thunderbirds will play host to the Port Huron Prowlers also on the 2nd.
