Danville Dashers News Release

The Danville Dashers took the weekend series against the Port Huron Prowlers behind strong team play and tenacious defense. Danville took the series 2-1 as new Dasher Head Coach Rod Davidson won two games in his first series with the Dashers.

The scoring started just three minutes into the first period as Justin Brausen deked his way through the Prowler defense with some stunning puck work. He found himself one-on-one with Port Huron's goaltender for the night Rick Odria and slotted home in his first game back after serving a two-game suspension. Brandon Contratto and Patrik Zilak got assists on the goal.

Daniel Martin fired home for the Dashers second of the night on assists from line-mates Brandon Contratto and Nathan Pelligra. Martin scored on the power play to extend the Dashers' lead to two goals with just under eight minutes gone in the game.

It wasn't long before the Dashers found the net again as Brandon Contratto found the back of the net on assists from Daniel Martin and Ryan Alves at even strength. The Dashers took a 3-0 lead and appeared to be coasting home mid-way through the second period until Matyas Kasek notched his first goal of the night, beating Matt Kaludis to the stick side, finding the top shelf to cut the lead to 3-1.

Nathan Pelligra answered back just one minute into the third period on assists from Daniel Martin and Dustin Henning to expand the lead to 4-1. Pelligra slid in front of goaltender Odria and redirected Martin's fake-shot turned pass over Odria's stick for the fourth and final Dasher goal of the night.

Port Huron wasn't out however as Jonathon Juliano netted his first goal of the net on an assist from Matt Worth with 17 minutes left to play in the game. Matyas Kasek also scored on a power play on assists from Juliano and Austin Fetterly, trimming the Dasher lead to 4-3.

In what showed to be a trend for two of the three games this week, the team on the comeback fell short, as despite pulling Odria, the Prowlers couldn't find a fourth goal to tie the game up as Matt Kaludis' stellar performance kept Port Huron out of the net, and out of the game.

The Dashers took two of three on this homestand, and will return to action in what was supposed to be a neutral site game Friday, but now has been changed to a game at home. The game against the Carolina Thunderbirds will be the first in a two-game series against the Thunderbirds, which will conclude Saturday night for Guns and Hoses Night.
