Dashers Head Coach Gets Job in the ECHL, Rob Schweyer Takes Over

It is with a heavy heart that the Danville Dashers announce that Matt McIlvane, Head Coach/General Manager of the Danville Dashers, who the Dashers acquired during mid-December of last year, has accepted a coaching position in the East Coast Hockey League. Additional information regarding McIlvane's departure will be made once the ECHL organization has published their own press release. The Dashers wish Matt the very best of luck with his new endeavor at the "AA" level. "This is a tremendous opportunity for Matt as a coach. We are confident Matt will be just as successful in his new position as he was here with the Dashers' organization. We look forward to continuing a relationship with him in the future" said Danville Dashers' owner, Barry Soskin, regarding McIlvane.
Although this news means another transition for the organization, the Dashers still have much to celebrate; stepping up as Head Coach/GM will be the Dashers' own Rob Schweyer, who was an effective member of the 2011-2012 team. His presence on the team and in the community of Danville will assure his seamless transition from player to coach, as Schweyer possesses the experience needed to coach the Dashers during their second season in the FHL. Says Soskin, "We're very thankful to have Rob back in Danville, where his presence as a fan favorite will still be felt. We look forward to having him as our Head Coach." Schweyer has had a very successful hockey career, starting off in the OHL in 1992-93 with the Owen Sound Platers. He later made his professional debut in the ECHL in 1999-2000 with the Greenboro Generals and the Roanoke Express. Schweyer's career boasts totals of 504 games at the Jr. A and professional levels, finishing with 294 points and a +4 rating. "It is a dream come true to be able to finish playing your professional career and start a new career coaching the sport you love, all in a place with familiar faces that make you feel right at home" said Schweyer.
