Dash Down Kinston 7-1 on Opening Night

In front of an Opening Night crowd of 4,062 fans, Winston-Salem beat Kinston 7-1 Thursday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. Winston-Salem shortstop Eduardo Escobar had a great Dash debut, going 4-for-5 with two rbi and a run scored.

Winston-Salem started the scoring in the top of the third inning when Drew Garcia reached on a walk and Justin Greene reached on an error by Kinston starting pitcher Kelvin De la Cruz. With one out in the inning, Escobar drove in both runs with a double. Escobar would score later in the inning on a wild pitch. Winston-Salem would add to their lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning by Kenny Williams Jr. and a solo shot in the fifth by Brandon Short. De La Cruz would take the loss, giving up seven hits and five runs (three unearned) in 4 2/3 innings of work. De La Cruz walked one and struck out four.

Dash starting pitcher Justin Edwards was great, giving up just five hits and one run in six strong innings. Edwards picked up the win, walking one and striking out three. Kinston got their only run of the game when Ronald Rivas tripled and Jordan Henry drove him in with an RBI single. Dan Remenowsky and Gregory Infante were solid from the Dash pen, combining for three scoreless innings. Santo Frias was good from the Kinston pen, giving up just one hit in 2 1/3 innings of work. Travis Turek gave up two unearned runs in two innings of work from the pen.

The K-Tribe returns to action Friday night at 7pm at Historic Grainger Stadium. Nick Hagadone will take the mound for Kinston.
