Darcey Levy joins the Big Blue

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today added a wide receiver with size and speed to its roster in the form of Darcey Levy.

Levy (6-2, 207, Pittsburgh '01, DOB: July 5, 1979 in Aurora, CO) comes to the Big Blue after spending two seasons going between the NFL and NFL-Europe.

"Darcey has very good speed, nice size for a receiver and he has the ability to return the football," said Brendan Taman, Winnipeg's general manager & vice-president of football operations. "He needs a chance to play and he fits a need for us."

Levy was a college runningback who was converted to wide receiver. He has the ability to return kicks as well.

THE NFL YEARS – 2003 – DENVER BRONCOS

The Denver Broncos signed Levy May 16, 2003. He remained a Bronco until his release Aug. 5, 2003.

THE NFL-EUROPE YEARS – 2003 – AMSTERDAM ADMIRALS

The Pittsburgh Steelers allocated Levy to the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL-Europe. He recorded two special teams tackles, one catch for seven yards in two games played.

THE NFL YEARS – 2002 – CINCINNATI BENGALS & PITTSBURGH STEELERS

The Cincinnati Bengals signed Levy as an undrafted rookie free agent Apr. 23, 2002. He attended the Bengals training camp and was one of the last players cut Sept. 2, 2002.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Levy Dec. 10, 2002. He was a member of the Steelers practice squad for the final three regular-season games and two playoff games.

THE COLLEGE YEARS – 2000-2001 – PITTSBURGH PANTHERS

Levy played two years of college football with the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. He started as a runningback with the Panthers but was converted to wide receiver late in the 2000 campaign.

THE COLLEGE YEARS – 1997-1998 – NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH

Levy played his first two seasons of college ball at Notre Dame. He saw action at tailback and on kickoff returns. His highlights included a 52-yard kickoff return against Michigan State.

THE HIGH-SCHOOL YEARS – MONTBELLO WARRIORS

Levy played his prep school ball with the Montbello High School Warriors in northeast area of Denver, Colorado.

As a senior, Levy was an All-Denver Prep League All-Star and a First-Team All City All-Star at runningback. He rushed for 1,419 yards on 162 attempts (8.8-yard average) and 27 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Levy made 50 tackles and two interceptions as a safety.

Levy also competed in basketball and track-and-field at Montbello. He ran a 10.3-second time in the 100-metre event as a senior. That time was the fastest in the state of Colorado that year.
