DANBURY, CT--J.M. Daoust scored a pair of third period goals, including the game-winner with 37.6 seconds left as the Danbury Trashers came from behind to defeat the Adirondack Frostbit 4-3 before 2,482 at the Danbury Ice Arena on New Year's night.
Despite outshooting the Frostbite 13-4 in the opening period, the Frostbite scored first as Kevin Watters sccored a power play goal from Hugo Belanger and Scott Drevitch at the 11:55 mark, but Danbury responded 58 seconds later on a David Hymovitz even strength goal to tie the score at 1-1.
Sly Cloutier netted a pair of goals in the second period to give the Frostbite a 3-1 lead, but Dave MacIsaac's power play goal at the 19:11 mark put Danbury within one goal heading into the final frame.
Daoust's first goal in the final period came at the 4:06 mark, as he took a pass in the left wing circle and snapped a shot past Kris Tebbs to tie the score at 3-3. A pair of fights followed later in the period as Ed Campbell and Ryan Bennett dropped the gloves at 5:48, followed by a MacIsaac beatdown of Chris Mei at the 7:36 mark.
With less than a minute to play, Troy Smith found Hymovitz in the neutral zone, who fired a perfect pass to Daoust, who streaked in from the right wing with a breakaway. Daoust came across the crease and backhanded a shot into the net to give the Trashers a 4-3 lead with 37.6 seconds left in the game.
Sly Daigle upped Danbury's record to 20-7-5 with a 16 save performance, while Tebbs stopped 32 of 36 for the loss. Danbury now has 45 points and a two-point lead over Adirondack in the UHL East Division.
