Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The Kalamazoo Wings and the Port Huron Flags won't have to wait long to play their first game of 2006. Both teams will be looking to start the New Year on a better note than they ended it. Kalamazoo ended 2005 with a 2-1 loss last night versus Muskegon, while Port Huron was also in action on New Year's Eve, as they loss 4-2 against Flint.

Despite their loss to the Fury, the K-Wings begin 2006 in a tie with Muskegon for the top spot in both the United Hockey League and the Central Division. Forwards Jason Deitsch and Tyler Rennette are looking to continue their recent success, as both players enter today's game on five-game point streak. The five-game streaks are longest current point streak by a K-Wings player.

After winning five games in a row, the Flags have now dropped three-straight. The three-game winless streak ties Port Huron with Roanoke and Richmond for the longest current drought in the league. Port Huron has played their fair share of close games, as 17 of the Flags 31 games have been determined by a single goal, with 13 of those games being decided in a shootout.

Road Trip

Today's game against the Port Huron Flags will start a four-game road swing for the K-Wings. While the K-Wings do have a couple of three-game road trips remaining, this four-game trip is the longest remaining road swing for the K-Wings this season.

After One

So far this season the K-Wings only trailed their opponents after the first period three times. When they trial after the opening period, Kalamazoo is 1-1-1.

Willis Reaches the Century Mark

K-Wing forward Tyler Willis recorded his 100th career point as a member of the K-Wings last night against Muskegon. The point, which was accumulated on an assist, was also meaningful for another reason; as the helper places Willis into fifth place in K-Wings UHL history for assists.

Amongst Friends

Despite the loss yesterday to Muskegon, the K-Wings have faired well against the Central Division. On the season, the K-Wings are 10-3-1 against their own division.
