Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - The D-Braves had their home opener Wednesday night, and the Greeneville Astros made sure that D-Braves fans did most of their cheering during the opening ceremonies.

Greeneville got off to a hot start, as the best hitting team in the Appalachian League so far dominated at the plate. Greeneville scored all 9 runs in the first five innings, while compiling 17 hits for the game. The two and three spots in the lineup for the Astros were a crucial factor in the game, as Juan Santana and Sean McMullen combined to go 7-11, with two runs, a double, and five RBI.

The bottom of the lineup chipped in for Greeneville as well, as Ydarqui Marte and Dayne Parker went a combined 7-10 on the night, scoring two runs each.

Andrew Waszak got the start on the hill for Danville, but unlike his first start, was ineffective against the Astros. Waszak gave up 11 hits, and surrendered 6 runs in 3.1 innings for Danville. Kyle Kinman, Luis Miranda, and Felix Marte all appeared in relief for the Braves, giving up three runs in 5.2 innings as a unit. Miranda came in out of the pen for 3.0 strong innings for Danville, surrendering only two hits and striking out three Astros.

The bright spot for Danville on the night was third baseman Jordan Edgerton, who continues his hot start to his pro career. The ninth round pick for Atlanta out of UNC Pembroke mashed the ball for Danville, seemingly hitting every gap in the outfield on his way to going 3-5 with three doubles and four RBI.

The Danville Braves (4-3) will take the field again tomorrow as they host the Greeneville Astros (4-3) in the second contest of a three game series. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
