Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - Danville came in to the three game set with Pulaski looking to build on their lead in the East, however exiting the series Danville will look to build it back up after a series sweep by Pulaski. Danville lost the doubleheader a combined 11-6, falling to the Mariners 3-1 in game one, and 8-5 in game two. Danville's lead in the East is now down to half a game over Princeton, and third place Pulaski.

In the first inning of game one the Pulaski Mariners made their living with two outs. Jay Baum put the first run of the game on the board singling to right, driving home Rafael Fernandez. Wayne Taylor added another run to the M's totals, driving home Baum for Pulaski's second run. Both runs for the Mariners came with two outs.

It was a tough game for Danville's Alec Grosser, who never really got settled on the mound in game one. Grosser went 5.0 innings giving up six hits, two walks, and all three Pulaski runs. In his last two outings, Grosser has thrown 9.1 innings, allowed 14 hits, seven runs (all earned), and walked four. Grosser took the loss in both contests.

The D-Braves managed just one run on five hits, walking just once and striking out six times as a team. The lone Danville run came in the second inning, as Braxton Davidson scored on a Fernelys Sanchez ground out to second base.

Daniel Missaki threw is first career complete game for Pulaski, a seven inning complete game that counts all the same. In two starts against the D-Braves this season, Missaki has thrown 12.1 innings, allowed 14 hits, but has struck out 15 batters. For the season, the Brazilian righty has an ERA of 2.39 in nine games for the Mariners.

Game two was more of the same for the D-Braves, until a seventh inning rally attempt.

Andrew Waszak's scheduled start last night was pushed to game two of tonight due to the rain out, however the extra rest did not work in the right hander's favor. Waszak lasted just 3.0 innings in game two, and could not find the strike zone at all for Danville. Waszak allowed three hits, three runs (all earned), walked three, and struck out two batters.

The D-Braves lineup struggled mightily against Patrick Peterson who got the start for the M's in game two. Peterson went 6.0 shutout innings, allowed only two hits, two walks, and struck out a career high 10 Braves. In Peterson's last start against Danville July 9th, also shut out the D-Braves in 5.0 innings of work.

Danville put together a late rally attempt, putting five runs on the board in the final frame after entering the inning down 8-0. Danville had more hits and walks in the seventh and final inning than the rest of the entire game. Danville was walked by relievers Rigoberto Garcia, Daniel Thieben, and Peter Miller a combined four times in the inning alone, and knocked four hits, doubling their totals from the rest of the game in both statistics.

The Danville Braves (33-25) will have an off day tomorrow, a league-wide rest day. The D-Braves will return to action Thursday as they begin a series with the Johnson City Cardinals (30-28) in their first matchup at ALP Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 325 Field, in what will be the last home series of the regular season for Danville.
