Danville Builds Lead in Second, Holds off Bees

BATTLE CREEK, MI - The Danville Dashers scored three consecutive second period goals in the span of 8:10 to shatter a 1-1 deadlock in defeating the Battle Creek Rumble Bees Friday night at The Rink Battle Creek, 5-3.

Tyler Quintos shorthanded breakaway goal at the 8:13 mark of the middle stanza triggered the torrent before Patrik Zilak connected twice in the span of 2:57 to catapult the victors into an insurmountable, 4-1 advantage.

Ryan Alves 10th goal of the campaign at the 6:40 mark of the opening period had knotted matters for the Rumble Bees as the stanza ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Rumble Bees rallied and nearly overcame their deficit when Stavros Soilis notched his 8th of the season late in the middle frame of the game at 18:48 and Marco Luciani connected on a Battle Creek power play while his club was enjoying a two-man advantage early in the third period at 3:05. The Luciani strike dwindled the deficit to 4-3.

Danville cemented its sixth success in as many meetings against the Rumble Bees and third consecutively in Battle Creek with a Sam Turner ENG in the game's final minute. Turner actually emanated and culminated the game's scoring as the transplanted defenseman scored the game's first goal at 3:48 of the first period. For the night, Turner earned the game's #1 Star with 2-goals, 2-assists and 4-points while teammate Mitch Atkins assisted three times.

For the Rumble Bees, defenseman Dave Nicoletti assisted on all 3-goals. The Dashers outshot the Rumble Bees 48-33. They were 0-2 on the power play; the Rumble Bees were 1-4.

The same two teams tussle Saturday night in Danville to cap the two-games home-and-home series with game time 8:00 pm and the game broadcast set for 7:30 pm on WFAT 102.7 FM and 930 AM.
