Nebraska Danger News Release

GRAND ISLAND, NE - The Nebraska Danger open their 2016 IFL season this Saturday night against the Tri-Cities Fever. The Fever already have one game under their belts as they hosted the Spokane Empire last week, losing to the Empire 60-51. Kickoff for Saturday is scheduled for 7PM at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.

The Danger and Fever last faced each other in the 2015 Intense Conference Championship game, with the Danger coming out on top 86-43. This week's match-up will be very different than the one a year ago. Nebraska only returns a handful of players while the Fever have a new coaching staff and a completely new roster.

The Fever's previous coach, Adam Shackleford, is now with the Spokane Empire and former Wyoming Cavalry head coach Ryan Lingenfelder is in charge of the Fever. A familiar name to Danger fans, Hunter Wanket, is leading the Fever at QB this season. Wanket was a part of the Danger's 2013 pre-season lineup.

Danger head coach Mike Davis had a chance to see his team in action last Friday as the Danger traveled to Omaha to take on the Beef in a pre-season match-up, winning 55-23. The team in Omaha was fully loaded with 33 players. Davis will have to cut that number down to 25 players for the regular IFL season.

"Having the chance to play in Omaha was great for us," Davis said. "Our coaching staff was able to see which guys stepped up and played well and who wouldn't make the cut. We only have about 6 guys returning this season, so there were a lot of unknowns heading into that game."

One of those 6 returning players is the reigning IFL Most Valuable Player, Jameel Sewell. Sewell started against Omaha and played through the first quarter and part of the second before giving back-up QB Ben Anderson some playing time.

"It was good for Jameel to get some live reps with our receivers. After a long off-season and having so many new faces, it takes some time for them to get in sync with each other," Davis said. "I thought Jameel came out and did exactly what we hoped for him to do. I was very happy with how everything went."

Kickoff is set for 7 pm on Saturday night at the Heartland Events Center. Doors open at 6:00 with pre-game activities beginning at 6:30.

Tickets for Saturday night are available at area Pump & Pantry stores, the Heartland Events Center Box Office, or via Ticketmaster. The game will be broadcast live on 2DayFM 103.1, or streamed live at www.2dayfm1031.com with live video available at IFLLive.TV.

Following the game, an autograph party with Players and Coaches will take place on the Danger turf.
