
Dallas Wings Introduce Annual 'Nancy Lieberman Women of Inspiration Awards'

ARLINGTON, TX - The Dallas Wings have announced the creation of an annual award series to honor outstanding women in their respective fields. The awards will be named the Nancy Lieberman Women of Inspiration Awards in honor of the Basketball Hall of Famer. Recipients will be honored at the team's annual Inspiring Women Celebrations. The three awards include Trailblazer Woman of Inspiration, Community Woman of Inspiration and the Businesswoman of Inspiration.
The team's 2023 Inspiring Women Weekend will take place on Friday, Aug. 4 and Sunday, Aug. 6 when the Wings face the Chicago Sky in back-to-back match-ups. Recipients of the inaugural awards will be announced later this week.
"Nancy has long been as a pillar in the women's basketball community and we are proud to have her serve as an ambassador for the Wings organization," Wings President & CEO Greg Bibb said. "Nancy's work off the court and in the community continually inspires us to do more for others through the sport of basketball. We all continue to benefit from her dedication to growing the game and her selfless acts of kindness. Naming these awards in honor of Nancy is a way of showing our gratitude for the trail she has blazed for everyone playing and working in women's basketball today."
An active member in the community, Lieberman hosts basketball clinics across the Dallas metroplex. Her foundation, Nancy Lieberman Charities, has built over 100 'Dream Courts' across the country and their mission is to improve the outcomes for undeserved youth in the areas of education, health & wellness, and career/life preparedness through various programs such as the Dream Courts, educational college scholarships, basketball camps, civic responsibility/social justice lecture series, mentorship and STEM/technology programs contribute to the health, self-esteem, and career success of the young girls and boys they aim to serve.
Lieberman, a two-time Olympian, three-time All-American and two-time collegiate national champion and Wade Trophy winner, played basketball professionally for over 20 years. She was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996 and again in 2023 with the 1976 Women's Olympic Team, and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. The Old Dominion legend was the first-ever draft pick by the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Professional Basketball League in 1980. In 1984, Lieberman led her team to the league championship and was also named MVP. She also played professionally in the WNBA for the Phoenix Mercury and then-Detroit Shock.
In addition to currently serving as a Team Ambassador for the Wings, Lieberman serves as the Head Coach of the Big Three's Power.

The Wings take on the Seattle Storm tomorrow, August 2, at 9:30 p.m. CT and were winners of seven of their 10 games in July.
