DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars, the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, today learned that the Dallas Stars have signed goaltender Dan Ellis and winger Krys Barch to contracts. Per club policy, financial terms of the one-year contracts were not disclosed.
"Both of these players showed promising potential this past season with the Iowa Stars and we are happy to have them back for next season," said Dallas General Manager Doug Armstrong. "We will look for them to continue to improve their games and make impacts within our organization in 2006-07." "Dan and Krys were key components to our team last season and we look for their respective games to move forward this coming season," commented Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White.
Drafted by Dallas with the 60th overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Ellis appeared in 34 games for the Iowa Stars during the 2005-06 season, posting a record of 16-13-1. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, he was 12th in the AHL with a .912 save percentage and was ranked 18th with a 2.78 Goals Against Average. The 26-year old registered a five-game winning streak from December 10th-23rd, allowing just eight goals in that span. Credited with Iowa's first franchise win, Dan was also named the 2004 ECHL Playoff Most Valuable Player with a record of 13-3 and a 1.86 GAA as a member of the Stars ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.
Appearing in 43 games for the Iowa Stars last season, Krys Barch recorded seven goals, six assists and a 'plus 4' rating: 43(7/6/13)+4. Also 26-years old, he paced the Des Moines-based Stars with 129 penalty minutes. A native of Guelph, Ontario, he also skated in 14 games for the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, accumulating 10 goals, four assists and 75 PIM's: 14(10/4/14)75.
