Dallas Sidekicks News Release
DALLAS (Feb. 18, 2014) - The rivalry between the Dallas Sidekicks and Monterrey is one that long-time Sidekick fans and players remember well, boasting fights, riots and taunts spanning over 20 years. This Saturday at 7 p.m. that rivalry will be revisited as the Monterrey Flash make the trip to the Allen Event Center to take on the Sidekicks in the first round of the PASL playoffs.
Dallas, Monterrey and the Hidalgo La Fiera have clinched the three playoff spots allotted to the Central Division . While Hidalgo and Dallas both finished out the ir regular seasons with a 14-2 record, Hidalgo claimed the top spot in the division as they defeated Dallas in December. If the Sidekicks win Saturday's match, they will move on to face Hidalgo on the road on March 1 to see who will make the trip to Chicago to compete for the Ron Newman Cup the weekend of March 15 .
This weekend will be the first meeting of the season between the Sidekicks and Monterrey, the Flash finish ing third in the Central Division with a regular season record of 13-3. Monterrey averages 8.75 goals for and 4.75 goals against, just trailing Dallas who averages 4.25 goals against. Leading the team in offense are Genoni Martinez (11-33-44) and Erick Tovar (16-27-33), while goalkeeper Juventino Morales sits just behind Sidekick goalkeepers Sagu and Milo in the PASL standings with a 4.77 GAA and 60% save percentage. Founded in 2011 from the remnants of La Raza de Monterrey and Monterrey Fury, the team made its debut in the PASL this season.
In 2011, the team was part of the LMFRPro (Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido Profesional) and placed 1st.
Dallas offensive leaders Nestor Hernandez (33-16-49) and Jamie Lovegrove (26-22-48) finished out the regular season as the ninth and tenth point-getters in the PASL, while veteran goalkeeper Sagu has been solid behind the net since returning from injury earlier this month.
