Dallas Sidekicks News Release
DALLAS (September 18, 2013)- The Central Division champion Dallas Sidekicks announced their regular season schedule on Wednesday for the 2013-14 campaign.
The Sidekicks returned to action last season, winning the Central Division with a 13-3 record. This year the team will be put to the test competing once again in the PASL, featuring a league-high 20 teams vying for the Ron Newman Cup.
The Sidekicks open their regular season Saturday, November 2 against the Wichita B-52s at the Allen Event Center. Wichita is an expansion team new to the PASL this season, but backed by Head Coach Larry Inlow, former defender and assistant coach of the Wichita Wings, whom the Sidekicks battled in the original MISL from 1984-92. The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
One of the Sidekicks' toughest games of the season will come early, the team making a trip to San Diego on November 9 to face the Sockers in what will be their season opener. The Sidekicks reestablished their long-lived rivalry with the team last season, ending the Sockers' record 48-game winning streak at the Allen Event Center on January 31, and then falling 5-4 on a goal scored as time expired in San Diego five days later. The Sidekicks will remain in California to take on the Ontario Fury on November 10.
On November 17, the Sidekicks will host their first U.S. Open Cup match, although the opponent is yet to be announced. The U.S. Open Cup for Arena Soccer is a single-elimination tournament run concurrent to the PASL regular season.
With several new expansion teams making up the Central Division, the Sidekicks will face several untested opponents this season, including the Tulsa Revolution and Wichita B-52s. The division also features two new clubs based out of Mexico, the Monterrey Flash and the Saltillo Rancho Seco. The Sidekicks, who were undefeated in at home in regular season matches, will also face the returning Texas Strikers and the recently re-named Hidalgo La Fiera FC.
"With expansion teams you never know what you are going to get," Sidekicks owner Ronnie Davis said. "We know that this season will be a tough one, and are working hard to prepare and put together the best team possible."
The Sidekicks opened training camp on Monday, September 16. The 2013-14 season roster will be announced in October.
Individual tickets to the home opener and 2013-2014 season tickets are currently on sale through Ticketmaster. For more information, visit www.dallassidekicks.net or call 214-550-6130. Follow the team on Twitter @GoSidekicks or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/GoSidekicks.
