Dallas Pulse News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Dallas PULSE (7-3), North Texas' women's professional volleyball team, swept the Columbus Fury (2-7) in straight sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-20) at Nationwide Arena on Saturday evening.
Dallas outside hitter Mimi Colyer put on a clinic, posting 23 kills on a .500 hitting percentage to go along with five digs and a block. Outside hitter Sofia Maldonado recorded 16 kills on a .387 clip, plus five digs and an ace. Outside hitter Kaylee Cox made her second start of the season, again lining up at opposite, and finished with eight kills and seven digs. Middle blockers Layne Van Buskirk and Kaitlyn Hord recorded four kills and three kills, respectively. Opposite hitter Malaya Jones added a key kill late to help seal the match.
For Columbus, outside hitter Raina Terry led the way with 15 kills on 29 swings, seven digs, and two blocks. Rookie outside hitter Akasha Anderson posted 10 kills, six digs, and a block in her first professional start.
The Fury trailed for most of the opening set as the PULSE dictated the tempo from first serve, building an early lead and surrendering it only during three brief ties. Dallas closed out the frame, 25-23, behind strong play from pin hitters Colyer and Cox. Colyer hit .467 with eight kills, while Cox added four kills on a .571 clip. Hord chipped in two kills on four swings.
The second set flipped the script, featuring 13 ties in a tightly contested battle. Dallas never fell behind by more than three points and stayed within striking distance throughout. Tied at 20-20, the teams traded points before the PULSE pulled away late to secure an identical 25-23 set win.
Columbus carried momentum into the third, leading for much of the frame. After an attack error put Dallas behind 11-14, the PULSE challenged for a block touch, but the call stood. The stoppage, however, sparked a response. A Van Buskirk kill secured the sideout and ignited a decisive 13-6 run, as Dallas closed the match in straight sets to complete the sweep.
The PULSE will aim to extend its winning streak on Thursday, Feb. 19, when the PULSE host the Indy Ignite at 7 p.m. CT at Comerica Center. The match will stream live on Victory+.
