Columbus Fury News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Dallas Pulse controlled key stretches and held off late Fury pushes to defeat the Columbus Fury in straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20, on Saturday night.
Outside hitter Raina Terry was the team leader in points with 17 on 15 kills and two blocks, followed by outside hitter Akasha Anderson with 11 points on 10 kills and a block.
"The best offensive team in the league (Dallas) against the best blocking team (Fury) in the league," head coach Angel Perez said. "We found out today, what we already knew, that offense usually wins in this sport. It's been a tough week for us, with different situations that we had and I think we had good individual performances. We just couldn't put all the pieces together to have everybody play the best game at the same time."
The Fury opened strong in Set 1 with outside hitter Akasha Anderson scoring the team's first point and quickly establishing herself as an offensive leader, contributing half of the Fury's early points and setting an energetic tone for the match.
Despite trading points throughout the frame, Dallas maintained control, using multiple scoring runs to keep separation. The Fury made a late push behind kills from Anderson and middle blocker Regan Pittman-Nelson to cut the deficit to two, but the Pulse closed the set 25-23. Terry led the Fury after one set with six kills, while Anderson added five points.
Set 2 was tightly contested early, with the Fury briefly taking momentum behind an ace from setter Ashley Evans and a block from outside hitter Megan Lush. Anderson and Terry continued to power the offense as the teams battled through several ties. However, Dallas responded with a late 3-0 run to reach set point and ultimately secured another 25-23 win despite a final Fury push.
In Set 3, the Fury again showed fight, taking a mid-set lead after a failed Dallas challenge and a kill from Anderson with a lead of 14-11. The Pulse answered with sustained pressure and a decisive late run to reach match point. Rainelle Jones provided one final kill for the Fury with the score being 24-20, but Dallas finished set 3 with a 25-20 match win.
